Homeless Law Workers Hub

Supporting community workers on the frontline of homelessness

Community-based support workers are vital in helping people facing homelessness to address their legal needs. Given the complexity and breadth of legal problems, frontline workers and their clients often face challenges navigating the justice system, understanding and enforcing rights, or accessing legal services.

On this website, you can find practical guides, factsheets, and templates to assist in identifying and supporting your clients with legal needs related to:

  • Housing & tenancy
  • Fines & infringements
  • Consumer debt
  • Criminal law & intervention orders

With self-guided support available online 24/7, the hub is designed to help you:

  • understand common legal processes;
  • provide guidance on how to support your client;
  • and help you find appropriate referral pathways

Who created the Workers Resource Hub?

The Workers Resource Hub is a free suite of resources created by Justice Connect’s Homeless Law program, in consultation with caseworkers across Melbourne, to provide guidance and support for caseworkers working with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Justice Connect designs and delivers high impact interventions to increase access to legal support and progress social justice.

Our Homeless Law program is Victoria’s specialist free legal service for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We specialise in preventing evictions into homelessness by offering integrated support from lawyers and social workers. We also work to challenge and change laws that unfairly impact on people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, in the areas of tenancy, fines, criminal law and consumer debt.

Our Under One Roof (U1R) program embeds our legal help into key support services in housing and health to deliver an integrated service. These partnerships and collaborations allowed us to identify the need for and create this suite of resources.

Justice Connect is grateful to our funders for their generous support of the U1R program and the Workers Resource Hub.

We also acknowledge the workers supporting clients on the frontline of homelessness in Victoria, who supported the development of this website by sharing their insights, ideas and feedback.
